  • 1.  Examples of equity considerations in AM planning

    Posted 30-04-2022 01:58
The City of Ottawa is continuing to explore how we can incorporate equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations into our asset management planning. I viewed an IPWEA webinar from last year that had a great example from Portland, and I am hoping to find other examples.

Does anyone have good examples from Canada or elsewhere of cities that have incorporated equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations into their asset management planning?

    Hi Robert,

Thanks for linking the webinar, I'm always interested in seeing how other cities and regions meaningfully incorporate DEI considerations.

These two references are more broad, but I found Seattle Public Utilities has a good overview of how they incorporate equity planning and analysis in their work: https://www.seattle.gov/utilities/protecting-our-environment/community-programs/environmental-justice-and-service-equity/equity-planning-and-analysis

Metro Vancouver, our regional authority in Vancouver, also has a study from last year about social equity and regional growth: http://www.metrovancouver.org/services/regional-planning/PlanningPublications/MVSocialEquity-RegionalGrowthStudy.pdf. I think this was a good overview for me to look at the different kinds of indicators that could be used to make decisions.
